How Coaching Can Help You Achieve Your Goals AND Enhance the Quality of Your Business & Life

If you’ve ever struggled in your business (who hasn’t?), you’ve probably considered hiring a business coach to provide direction. Even if everything is going well in your business, the mentorship provided by a business coach can help you lean in to the good things happening in your life.

Below is some key information about how coaching can help you achieve your business and life goals and enhance the quality of your business and your life.

Create Clarity

One of the most important things a coach can do is help you gain clarity about your purpose and your business. Christian business coaches can help you identity your God-given purpose and how that applies to your vocation as a believer and an entrepreneur.

On the topic of vocation, Thomas Merton once said, “Discovering vocation does not mean scrambling toward some prize just beyond my reach but accepting the treasure of true self I already possess. Vocation does not come from a voice out there calling me to be something I am not. It comes from a voice in here calling me to be the person I was born to be, to fulfill the original selfhood given me at birth by God.”

This quote reminds me of Ephesians 2:10, which says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

A Christian business coach can give you the clarity you need to change course in your business. If your business isn’t in alignment with your personal calling and purpose, you’ll need to pivot to a business that fits God’s calling on your life.

Each of us is uniquely wired and created for a certain purpose. Your skills and personality are important. When you know yourself, you’re better equipped to know what God designed you to do.

Reveal Blind Spots

In Matthew 7:3-5, Jesus tells people to remove the plank in their own eye before pointing out the speck in another’s eye. While this passages is referring to hypocrisy and sin, it can have a business context.

It’s often harder to see your own flaws, shortcomings, and mistakes when they’re right under your nose. You’re too close to the situation so you miss things that are obvious to others. There’s an analogy about how it’s easier to read a package label from the outside than it is to read it when you’re inside yourself. A coach can help shine light on the things you cannot see.

This is one of the most powerful ways a coach can help you. They’re able to have a bird’s eye view of the situation in ways you cannot. Not only do they have their experience and the experiences of people they’ve worked with, they’re removed from the situation in a way that gives them clarity.

Receive Support

Working as a mompreneur can often be a lonely journey. Even when you have the support of family and friends, only fellow mompreneurs know what it feels like to juggle everything on your plate. When you’re coached by a fellow mompreneur, she can show empathy for your situations because she’s walked the same road you’re on.

Sometimes you just need someone who has lived through it to remind you that you’ll get through these difficulties, too. Support and encouragement are vital roles filled by a good business coach.

Gain Expert Advice

Business coaches have the expertise to educate and equip you. You can learn from their experience and mistakes to create the best possible business. Sometimes, a business coach will help you know things you didn’t realize you don’t know.

The image above is a reminder that we only know a small fraction of things. Even when we realize that there are things we don’t know, there’s an even larger portion of things we don’t know that we don’t know. A business coach can walk you through situations and information you didn’t even realize you needed to know to reach success.

Proverbs 15:22 reminds us, “Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.” Your business coach is someone who can give you wise counsel when it comes to your business, your home life, and balancing it all.

Accountability

A business coach is also someone who can keep you accountable about reaching your goals. All too often, personal goals are neglected because no one else is holding you accountable. Having someone to talk through goals and track your progress can help give you the push you need to succeed.

When you don’t meet your goals, your business coach is someone who can give you tools and work collaboratively to create strategies to help you meet goals in the future. They aren’t there to chastise you, but to equip you for success.

Community with Likeminded Individuals

It’s important to have community with likeminded individuals going through the same things you’re facing. Find a group that offers support to entrepreneurs in your industry, female entrepreneurs, or mompreneurs in particular.

Take time to create community with people you’d like to emulate. You can learn from them and offer mutual support. Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Finding a group of likeminded individuals won’t only improve your business, but theirs as well. People are stronger together.

Conclusion

Having a coach or mentor is so valuable, especially as an entrepreneur. Whether you’re just starting your business or preparing to scale it to the next level, a business coach can help push you to greater heights. They can offer clarity, advice, encouragement, and accountability you may otherwise be missing.

Not everyone is ready to make the financial commitment to find a business coach. While there’s still great value in one-on-one coaching, I realize not every can afford to make that commitment.
